The word Christmas comes from the Old English “Cristes maesse” meaning “Christ’s Mass”. Recently instead of Christmas, we simply write Xmas. I also used and use this form very often, but to tell the truth, I did not know the following details about the ”X” version Christmas. It turns out that ”X” in Greek means Christ: “X” comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός, translated as “Christ”, While the ”mas” is from old English word Mass.
Here is a Christmas song for you!
Christmas is all around
Merry Christmas!
