1 of April, be careful not to be fooled by someone! 🙂
It is not known where exactly the custom began, why the April 1 is a day of All Fools’ Day; But still there are couple of versions about it. The day can be related to the ancient Roman festival Hilaria, which celebrates the resurrection of the god Attis.
According the other version, France is a place when the custom was born. There was a time when the New Year’s festival was celebrated from March 25 to April 1 and people used to exchange gifts. But later king James IV changed the holiday to January 1. People who still celebrated the event in April 1 were called ”April fish” and sent mock presents.
The name of the month itself could come from Roman word ”Aprilis” meaning ”to open”, or it may come from Aprodithe, the Greek name for the goddess of love.
P.S. The April flowers are: daisy or sweet pea; Beautiful!!! ☼
