Sweden is a country with maximum consumption of waste. Only 4% of household waste goes into landfills.
Sweden’s waste recycling program is too successful.
The program that enables trash to be transformed into energy requires more waste (burnable) than the country has now. That is the reason Sweden started to import trash from the European neighbours (mostly from Norway).
To support the waste-to-energy program Sweden plans to import the waste also from Italy.
